Interwar tiles and what moss actually does to them
The concrete interlocking tiles common on Henleaze roofs hold moss in the interlock, and the moss holds water against the tile through the winter. Left long enough that shows up as spalling on the tile edge and as blocked gutters underneath. We soft-wash with a biocide and leave the dead growth to weather off over the following weeks rather than scraping it — scraping is faster to look at and much harder on the tile. On the drive, we run a rotary head at a controlled distance so the finish is even, then re-sand the joints.
Drives, side returns and garden access
Most Henleaze properties have off-street parking, so the van goes on the drive and nothing sits on the road. Side returns are often narrow with a gate — we need about a metre to get equipment through, and we say up front if the only route is through the house. Garden plants along the working line get sheeted before the biocide goes on.

Why not just scrape the moss off the roof?
Because scraping takes the surface off the tile and leaves the spores behind, so it comes back faster and the tile is worse for it. A biocide soft-wash kills it and lets it weather off.
Do I need to be at home?
No, as long as we have access to an outside tap and the side gate. We send photos before and after, and you pay once you have seen them.
